Two wheels can make a difference!

On Sept 21, New York motorcyclists took part in International Coastal Cleanup Day and cleaned up one of the City’s most polluted shorelines: Plumb Beach. The event, Turn the Tide, was a partnership between Engines for Change and NYCH2O, and it resulted in ~200 volunteers collecting 101 bags of garbage and 35 bags of recycling in just a few hours.

“It was a great first event for us,” said Engines for Change Founder Kirsten Midura. “We had about 25 motorcyclists; That was a small portion of the overall turnout, but they were the ones who stuck around, weighed all the trash, and made sure we got the data we needed. They really went the extra mile.”

This cleanup is one of many events that Engines for Change will host that will incite positive activism. “The world needs more active, passionate people who unite for a cause,” Midura explains. She is still compiling the data from the weekend and intends to send out a post-cleanup report soon. To stay updated, please sign up for our mailing list by filling out the Contact form.
