In May 2022, Engines for Change Founder Kirsten Midura traveled to Peru with Rally for Rangers to deliver motorcycles to the Peruvian National Park Service (SERNANP). While on the trip, Kirsten uncovered an additional need that the park rangers had: solar energy for their ranger stations.

Currently, Peru's park rangers must haul in diesel fuel in order to power their ranger stations, and in some instances, do not have reliable electricity at all. Solar systems would allow rangers to carry out their work more effortlessly, with access to reliable off-grid energy at their remote stations.

Engines for Change is raising funds for a return trip to Peru to install solar systems on 14 ranger stations throughout the country, including in the Amazon rainforest and along the Inca Trail. 

We're looking to raise $250,000 from 2023-2024 in the form of monetary and/or in kind donations.


In-kind donations can be made in the form of the following. Please contact us to discuss in-kind donations:

  • Solar equipment: panels, batteries, inverters

  • Ancillary equipment: structural materials, conduit, wiring, etc.

  • International shipping services to Peru

  • Transferrable flight credits, mileage points, or airline tickets

  • Motorcycles (to be donated to park rangers)
